You are handing us your study material, so you deserve to know exactly what happens to it.

What we collect

We collect what UpSolo needs to work, and nothing to sell. What that is depends on how you use it.

—Your account: your name, email address and profile picture from the Google or GitHub account you sign in with. We never see your Google or GitHub password.

—Your library: the video links you add, and what you make from them: notes (including video frames you snapshot into them), highlights, flashcards and their review history, quizzes and your scores, mind maps, reports, quote cards, summaries and your tutor chats.

—Credits and billing: how many credits you have used, and, if you buy credits or Pro, your purchase and subscription records. Card details go to Stripe; we never see or store them.

—Messages you send us: feedback reports (sent with your account email so we can reply) and waitlist signups (your email address).

—Technical data: your IP address and browser details, used to keep the service running and to rate-limit abuse. The free tools use a one-way hash of these, not an account, to count free uses.

We do not collect your YouTube watch history, your Google or GitHub contacts, or anything from pages or tabs you did not hand to us.

How we use it

To run UpSolo for you: fetching a transcript, generating a summary or answer, scheduling your flashcard reviews, keeping your library in sync, and taking payments. We also count visits and which tools get used, to decide what to build next.

Transcripts are the public captions of public videos. When one learner fetches a video's transcript, UpSolo keeps it so the next learner can open the same video for free. That shared copy is only the video's own captions: your notes, highlights, cards, chats and everything else you make stay private to your account.

Plainly

We do not sell your data, we do not show you ads, and we do not use your notes or chats to train AI models. If that ever changes, it changes with an email and a choice first, not a footnote.

AI features

Summaries, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, reports, infographics, translations, shadowing marks and the tutor are generated by an AI model. To make one, we send the video's transcript (and, for the tutor, your question, the recent conversation and your position in the video) to the model provider, Google's Gemini or a model hosted on Hugging Face, through Cloudflare's AI Gateway. They process it to return the result; we keep the result in your library.

Services we use

A short list of companies do specific jobs for us. Each gets only what that job needs.

Cloudflare: Delivers and protects the website, runs the bot check on some forms (Turnstile), sends our email, routes AI requests and stores waitlist signups.
Google: Sign-in with Google, the Gemini AI model, and Google Tag Manager, which loads our visitor analytics.
GitHub: Sign-in with GitHub.
Hugging Face: Hosts the backup AI model used when Gemini is unavailable.
Stripe: Takes payments for credits and Pro.
iotools.cloud: Fetches a video's transcript and details from its platform. It receives the video link, nothing about you.
YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, TikTok, X, DeepLearning.AI: Their players load in your workspace so you can watch the video, and we ask them for a video's title and thumbnail. Their players follow their own privacy policies.

Cookies

—A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in. Without it, accounts can't work.

—A few preference cookies and local settings, such as how you like your library laid out.

—Analytics cookies set through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and page views.

—The embedded video players and the Turnstile bot check may set their own cookies.

The browser extension

The UpSolo extension for Chrome and Edge runs only on youtube.com. On a video page it adds the UpSolo panel and reads what the panel needs from that page: the video's captions, its chapters and the playback position. It does not read other sites, other tabs or your browsing history, and it has no analytics or tracking.

—Without an UpSolo account connected, nothing leaves your browser. The transcript is fetched from YouTube and shown right there.

—Connecting an account signs you in on upsolo.me in a browser window. The extension then keeps a login token for upsolo.me, stored in the extension only, and shows your email and credits in the panel.

—While an account is connected, the panel tells upsolo.me which YouTube video you opened, so it can show whether that video is in your library and your summary of it. Only the video's id is sent, nothing about other pages.

—When you save a video, summarize it, ask the tutor or save a quote or card, the extension sends that request to upsolo.me. Saving a video UpSolo does not have yet also sends its captions, so the transcript can be kept in your library. It is used only for your own account.

—The extension's toolbar panel lists the videos in your library, with thumbnails loaded from the video platform's image server, and can delete a video from your library when you ask it to.

—Disconnect from the extension's toolbar panel, or from your account page on upsolo.me, and the token stops working immediately.

How long we keep it

Your account and library are kept for as long as you have an account. When you delete a video from your library, everything you made for it (notes, highlights, cards, chats and the rest) is deleted with it, straight away. When your account is deleted, everything in it goes too. Deleted data can remain in our backups for a limited time until they are replaced. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Your choices

—Export what you make: flashcards to Anki, CSV or text; transcripts to PDF, Word, subtitles (SRT, VTT) or JSON; reports to PDF, Word or Markdown; mind maps, infographics and quote cards as images.

—Delete any video from your library, and everything you made for it goes with it.

—Disconnect the browser extension at any time from your account page.

—Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete your account and everything in it: email [email protected] and we will do it.

Children

UpSolo is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a change that affects what we collect or how we use it, we will email everyone with an account before it takes effect, and update the date at the top of this page.
